I've only had the unit less than a month so can't comment on the longevity. I believe it is an effective air purifier although for the price I question it's value. There is not much to the housing. Basically a tin box which amplifies the fan noise at the lowest setting. The noise is a minor scraping sound so not a big deal but does give it an industrial feel to it. Nothing sophisticated about the design - basic gasket tape, sheet metal screws, etc. Crude but effective. Definitely not over designed - which is not a bad thing. As another reviewer noted, the screws on the bottom are misaligned and one was stripped. Will eventually replace with a larger **** as these have to be dealt with when replacing the filter element. Someone needs to be more mindful assembling these units.

Clean and Pure

I highly recommend the Austin Air purifiers. I did a 10 year analysis of this purifier compared to a competitor's product I was considering. Both are highly recommended by professionals. This product won out for the best value with replacement filter costs. I am 100% pleased with simplicity, quietness, ease of use and effectiveness. I plugged it in straight out of the box, no other set up required. I know the air quality in my home is now staying clean and pure.

Nothing is better for longevity and allergens

I have had the same Austin health mates for 32 years, and have added others. Filters continue to be available and are reasonably priced, and the air filtration continues to be excellent. The largest one can be noisier than some on the highest fan setting.
